Tradition Day
What do we celebrate on this day?
We celebrate our cultural heritage which includes customs, music, food, and other typical Argentine activities. The most outstanding and widespread are mate, asado (barbecue), folk music, horse riding exhibitions, horse taming, leather and silver crafts, ponchos, and other garments made on looms (among many others).
José Hernández
On November 10, 1834, José Hernández was born, Argentina's greatest writer who dedicated his poetic and narrative production to the life of the 19th-century countryman—the gaucho—and his issues (his vision of life, customs, language). He wrote "Martín Fierro" and "The Return of Martín Fierro," among many other poems. His lifestyle, far from society's conventions, gave him freedom of action but also demanded sacrifices and hardships.
José Hernández's birth date was established as Tradition Day by National Law 21.154 of 1975. On this day, we celebrate our national identity that identifies us as a country.
